BREVARD COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTERS AND ADOPTION AGENCIES

THESE SHELTERS ACCEPT EVERY ANIMAL BROUGHT TO THEM (Open Admission).  THEY ARE OPERATED BY BREVARD COUNTY:

SOUTH ANIMAL CARE AND ADOPTION CENTER, 5100 W Eau Gallie Blvd, Melbourne, FL  32934  Phone 321-253-6608,  Fax 321-259-3226

NORTH ANIMAL CARE AND ADOPTION CENTER,  2605 Flake Rd, Titusville, FL   321-264-5119

THIS SHELTER HAS BECOME "CLOSED ADMISSION."  IT NO LONGER ACCEPTS MANY STRAYS OR RELINQUISHED ANIMALS.

CENTRAL BREVARD HUMANE SOCIETY, 1020 Cox Rd, Cocoa, FL 32936  321-636-34255

THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER SHELTERS AND RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS WHICH DESIGNATE THEMSELVES AS “NO-KILL” (Closed Admission).  THEY CHOOSE AND LIMIT THE TYPES AND NUMBER OF ANIMALS THEY ACCEPT, AND SEND THE REST ELSEWHERE (Usually to the county shelters).

PLEASE ADOPT YOUR PETS FROM A LOCAL OPEN ADMISSION SHELTER.

YOU WILL SAVE LIVES!

Some people find it very difficult to go to shelters because there are so many animals in need.  It can be especially difficult to visit an open-admission shelter where animals may be euthanized.  It is easy to be critical of conditions associated with such an emotionally charged situation.

Shelter workers strive to provide the best possible conditions for the animals in their care, but sometimes there may be real or apparent lapses.  If you are concerned please speak with the shelter staff, but also bear in mind that there may be more to the observation than meets the eye.  Please consider certain things before you complain
