Thank you for visiting our site.  We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the welfare of homeless animals.

OUR MISSION

Animal Guardians of Brevard was formed to promote responsible, lifetime pet guardianship through education, counseling, and accessible, affordable sterilization.  We strive to increase awareness of companion animal overpopulation and promote or participate in any activities that will improve the well-being of homeless, neglected, abandoned, and unwanted animals.

OUR VISION

Animal Guardians of Brevard   exists to see that one day every companion animal born will have the lifetime, loving home s/he deserves in a world with No More Homeless Pets.

Animal Guardians of Brevard WAS A LOCAL RECIPIENT OF THE prestigious, national Jefferson Award for Public Service on May 24, 2006, recognizing the value of our programs and our commitment to helping homeless animals.

In October, 2006, our President, Mary E. Peer, was chosen as a finalist for Volunteer of the Year by Florida Today.

On April 20, 2007, Animal Guardians received regional Jefferson Award Recognition.

ANIMAL GUARDIANS OF BREVARD was featured on WESH NEWS CHANNEL 2 with Wendy Chiogi in Friday, April 6, 2007.  Mary and Dennis Peer were recognized as "HOMETOWN HEROES" and Jefferson Award recipients.  Click here to view.

Animal Guardians of Brevard is NOT a shelter and we do not have animals directly in our care.  Therefore we cannot accept any animals.  We also cannot find new homes for animals unless they are already in shelters. Our primary focus is on Spaying and Neutering, and we have arranged and funded sterilization of nearly 2200 cats and dogs.

We also support the efforts of the Brevard County Animal Care and Adoption Centers (South-SACC, North-NACC) in trying to manage all the animals discarded or abandoned by the community and the area's "no-kill" shelters, which are also subject to the overwhelming number of unwanted pets.  SACC and NACC are Brevard's largest and ONLY open-admission shelters, accepting any animal, from any source, for any reason, at any time.  They are extremely overcrowded at this time with healthy, friendly cats and dogs who need safe, loving homes.  PLEASE open your heart and your home to an animal in dire need.  Save a life.

I am PLATO and I was lost and ended up here.  I'm a smart, young, playful pit bull terrier mix, and I love to play catch.  I am a really good dog and I'm running out of time to get the lifelong, loving home I deserve.  Please click here to find out more about me.  Adopt me or my kitty and doggie friends from the South Animal Care and Adoption Center.  See MAP
I am JINXY and I ended up at the shelter because my person could no longer care for me.  Why?  I don't know.  I don't require much - just a little food, water, and love.  I'm a gorgeous, sweet, young, black female kitty.   I'm getting desperate for the forever home I deserve.  Please click here to out more about me.  Adopt me or my kitty and doggie friends from the South Animal Care and Adoption Center.  See MAP

Animal Guardians' SPAY-NEUTER CLINICS and Assistance

Animal Guardians of Brevard offers low cost spay-neuter services (and financial aid for eligible pet guardians) through local low-cost clinics and a mobile clinic.

APPOINTMENTS ARE MANDATORY.  Please click here or contact us for more information.

PLEASE NOTE:  We do NOT spay and neuter pets adopted from rescue organizations for an adoption fee.  If you cannot afford the cost of sterilization and necessary shots in addition to the adoption fee, then please adopt from a responsible organization where it is all included.   Generally the fee is no higher and the animals are just as wonderful!

Special thanks to the staff at Aloha Pet and Bird Hospital for making a big difference in the lives of homeless animals in Brevard County.  They have rescued several homeless animals from the South Animal Care and Adoption Center (SACC) who were in danger of being euthanized.  Animals are cared for in the office, which frees up space for other animals at the overcrowded shelter.   This off-site exposure also provides an opportunity to see and adopt these animals for members of the community who might not go the shelter.  In addition, they receive extra attention and socialization that the overburdened shelter staff is unable to provide, and this enhances their chances for adoption.

The veterinary staff at the South Animal Care and Adoption Center (SACC) were recognized by Animal Guardians for their dedication to Brevard's homeless animals.  They provide care for a wide range of ailments often not treated in a shelter population and are available 24/7 to provide treatment plans.  Shown (l. to r.) vet techs Tina and Gwen, veterinarian Dr. Robbie Asher, and Mary and Dennis Peer of Animal Guardians.  Thanks for going the extra mile!

Every time disaster strikes, people rush to adopt displaced pets. While this is a very generous gesture, PLEASE DON'T FORGET THAT SWEET, BEAUTIFUL, HEALTHY ANIMALS IN BREVARD DIE FOR LACK OF HOMES EVERY DAY whether there has been a disaster or not.  IF YOU HAVE A HOME FOR A DISASTER PET, SURELY YOU HAVE ONE FOR A LOCAL PET WHOSE LIFE IS JUST AS VALUABLE.  Read Buddy's story.

Our  low cost spay-neuter PROGRAMS are providing assistance to needy peoples' pets through clinics and referrals for low cost services.    Brevard County now offers a $25 rebate for pet sterilization.  Find out more.
"No Kill" STARTS with No Birth.

Those of us involved with Animal Guardians of Brevard appreciate the strength of the pet-person bond and the devastating effects loss of a pet can have.  Our sympathy is with all who have lost a cherished companion and we have dedicated a PET LOSS page to the beloved pets of those who have suffered such a loss.
